Getting Started

Kiss - Yep, keep it simple “silly”
  • My approach to technology integration
    • More why - less how
    • Don’t reinvent the wheel - Technology is augmentative
    • Technology at its best should remove barriers, scaffold learning, expand opportunities
    • Macul iPad Article  or (http://goo.gl/fJssD)- Co-authored with Joanne Hopper  (ironically not viewable on iPads)
  • Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Student Need should drive instruction NOT apps, NOT devices
  • The majority of apps have a very limited scope and use
  • Apps that focus on the 4c’s (Communication, Collaboration, Creation, and Critical Thinking) have the greatest potential for education
  • Apps that take advantage of the iPad’s portability, instant-on access, long battery life, cameras, microphone, multi-touch, location awareness, and connectivity can have greatest potential for cross-content, professional, and personal impact.

Example: Use the lap feature of a stopwatch app or timer app to let students track progress and set goals.
